The final stage of the Russian Biathlon Cup in Ufa continues.
In the women’s sprint, the fight turned out to be such that contact racing could envy.
During the acceleration, Ekaterina Noskova turned out to be the best of all the starters, but the biathlete did not manage to get into the top 3. Artem Istomin’s group is somehow not doing well this season.
The first serious bar in the race was set by Polina Shevnina. After a perfect lay down, only Natalia Shevchenko, Anastasia Batmanova and Victoria Slivko were able to pass her. The girls were separated from each other by a matter of seconds.
By the time she reached the standing position, Shevchenko, as one of the best skiers in biathlon, had overtaken all her rivals. Only Slivko could not be thrown off. The athlete’s loss was only 0.5 seconds. After the stand, the situation changed for both, not for the better. Shevchenko went one circle, and Slivko went two. If the ex-skier was still in the fight for the top 3, the sprint was completely ruined for Slivko.
After the failure of Shevchenko and Slivko in the fight for the intermediate first place, Shevnina and Batmanova remained. It was easier for the latter because she started later and knew her opponent’s time. There was a small gap between them after the second line. Batmanova tried to win back, but the distance was a little short. Shevnina remained the leader, waiting to see what the others would show.
Tamara Derbusheva and Anastasia Shevchenko took the lead after standing. Shevnina’s position was in jeopardy. Shevchenko was much faster in speed, so at the finish line no one was surprised by her victory. Derbusheva could force her to fight, but Tamara is still recovering from her illness. I only had enough strength for second place.
A certain sensation could have come from Kira Dyuzheva, who started last, but she failed to clear all the targets on the stand. Svetlana Mironova could not do anything either. For now, accurate shooting alone is not enough for her to succeed. Tatyana Akimova, who returned to biathlon after a long break, also missed out.
As a result, no one was able to dislodge Shevchenko from first position. For her, the victory in Ufa was her first of the season. Derbusheva remained second, and Shevnina retained third place.
The MHG, according to the sprint racing program, went to ex-skier Shevchenko. To do this, she didn’t even need to win medals.

On the men’s side, Andrey Vyukhin and Alexander Loginov started the sprint better than the rest, but shooting ruined everything for them. Vyukhin entered two circles, and Loginov grabbed one. Thus, Ivan Kolotov, who held the lead for a long time after prone, was displaced from first position not by them, but by Anton Babikov and Evgeniy Sidorov.
Loginov tried to rehabilitate himself before the stand, even played a little against Babikov and Sidorov. After precise work at the second turn, Babikov continued to lead, but without Sidorov. He missed once. Loginov controlled himself and closed all the targets. Despite this, the gap from Babikov was serious. Only the final lap could change anything.
Babikov was somehow tired, but Loginov was just floating on the track. 1.5 km before the finish, Babikov’s position was not the best. Loginov was less than a second behind him. At the finish the gap was even greater. So, Loginov led the race, but Eduard Latypov was going to change the final layout.
Latypov won 5 seconds over Babikov after prone, and 5.7 after standing. Accurate shooting, which has become rare for a biathlete, did its job. As the race progressed, Eduard only increased his advantage. As a result, he brought Loginov 25 seconds before the pursuit, and Babikov – 35.
At the finish line, Latypov felt joy not only from the victory, but also from the fact that his family supported him. The biathlete’s daughter screamed “daddy” so loudly that it seemed like the whole stadium heard it.
“My daughter’s scream at the finish line is the best thing for me today. The victory makes me happy, because the child is so worried, they have pure love, in the very heart,” Latypov told Match TV.
In addition, the best biathlete of the season won the MHG in the sprint competition.
