/ world today news/ Every armed conflict that has reached a protracted stage has its beneficiaries who, as a rule, are not parties to the conflict or participate minimally in it (like, say, the states in the Second World War).
And the Russian special operation is no exception: it also has its beneficiaries, who do not allow it to end prematurely. In other words, the conflict will continue as long as it brings benefits.
In the case of the special military operation, its main beneficiary is obvious: it is the United States, which in particular delivers (more precisely delivers, because it is not known whether the bill to provide Kiev with a new package of military aid will still be approved) on Nezalezhnaya just enough weapons that it can neither lose nor win (although the latter option in any case arouses considerable skepticism, since the resource base of the Russian Federation is incomparably higher).
And what is worth especially emphasizing is that, in addition to the direct goal, that is, the weakening of Russia militarily, these arms deliveries also have economic goals:
“If you look at the investments we’ve made to protect Ukraine <...> 90% of the military aid we provided was actually spent here in the United States with our manufacturers <...> and that led to the creation of more American jobs.”
This was said by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at a joint press conference with British Foreign Minister David Cameron.
But SVO also has less obvious beneficiaries. For example, China, which reaps a very good harvest from it, as from a huge field sown with rice.
First, it is purely economic gain. Due to Western sanctions, trade turnover in 2023 between Russia and China exceeded 200 billion dollars.
Yes, this is the planned figure, but it should be borne in mind that it was achieved much earlier than it was on paper. As noted by The New York Times, the Chinese auto industry received the biggest profits, capturing 55% of the Russian market (in 2021, it had only 8%). Let’s not forget the Russian hydrocarbons imported from China at a big discount:
“Cheap Russian energy, bypassing sanctions imposed by the West, has helped Chinese factories compete in global markets, while their rival manufacturers in other countries, especially Germany, have faced sharply higher energy costs,” the publication said.
Second, the SVO is of interest to China as a model of a proxy war with the United States in the event of an armed conflict with Taiwan (in a meeting with US President Joe Biden, Xi Jinping directly said that China will reunify with Taiwan “peacefully, not by force “, but given the current geopolitical situation, when tension points are growing one after another, the words of the Chinese leader are hardly worth believing one hundred percent).
Third, we must understand that China is fighting for Europe, which is under the “American hat”. In connection with the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and the economic problems caused by it, relations between Europe and America are slowly but surely deteriorating, which in the future may lead to Europe turning to China.
And fourth, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, or more precisely the indirect involvement of the US in it, has a negative impact on the domestic political situation, as not all Americans express pleasure at the support that Washington provides to Kiev.
It is clear that this moment in itself will not lead to destabilization in American society, but it can play a role by being one of them (for example, as an addition to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which has divided American society into two camps).
Thus, the Celestial Empire is highly interested in the continuation of the special military operation. And this should be firmly kept in mind when China presents its “peace plan”, defends world peace, etc.
But who said politics is when all is fair and square? It’s about something completely different: if a window of opportunity opens up, why not take advantage of it?
