The funeral of Major General Mounir Thabet, brother of Suzanne Mubarak, widow of former President Hosni Mubarak, was held from Al-Siddiq Mosque in the Sheraton area of New Cairo, in the presence of a number of his family members.
Thabet died on Sunday morning at the age of 88, according to what his son Khaled Thabet said on his personal Facebook page.
Major General Pilot Mounir Saleh Thabet was born on October 29, 1936, in the city of Qena. He is the son of pediatrician Saleh Thabet, brother of Suzanne Mubarak, wife of the late President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak.
Thabet was a member of the Egyptian shooting team, and served as president of the Egyptian Olympic Committee from 1990 to 1993.
He also assumed the position of President of the Egyptian Olympic Committee again, during the period from 1996 to 2009.
