“Dune: Part Two Receives Rave Reviews and Lands in IMDb’s Top 10 of All Time”
Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated sequel, Dune: Part Two, has taken the world by storm, with many hailing it as one of the greatest science fiction movies ever made. After experiencing the film firsthand, it’s hard to argue against such claims. The numbers, too, seem to support this sentiment.
While the film boasts exceptional audience and critic scores on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s the film’s performance on IMDb that truly stands out. With a current rating of 9.0/10 based on a staggering 63,000 reviews, Dune: Part Two has firmly secured its place among the top 10 films of all time on the platform. What’s even more impressive is that a remarkable 52% of these ratings have awarded the film a perfect 10/10 score.
To put this achievement into perspective, it’s worth noting that Dune: Part Two is not only ranked among the top 10 science fiction films but among all movies in history. While it currently shares the 9.0 rating with several other films, those movies have garnered significantly more reviews, making it all the more challenging for Dune: Part Two to maintain its position. For now, let’s consider it as the eighth film on this prestigious list:
1. The Shawshank Redemption – 9.3
2. The Godfather – 9.2
3. The Dark Knight – 9.0
4. The Godfather Part 2 – 9.0
5. 12 Angry Men – 9.0
6. Schindler’s List – 9.0
7. The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King – 9.0
8. Dune: Part Two – 9.0
9. Pulp Fiction – 8.9
10. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings – 8.9
Of course, it’s important to acknowledge that these rankings may fluctuate over time, as the most enthusiastic viewers are likely to have submitted their reviews early on. Furthermore, IMDb tends to attract a more geek culture-focused audience, which may skew the rankings slightly. For instance, is The Dark Knight truly the third-best film ever made? That remains a subjective question. Nevertheless, the fact that Dune: Part Two has achieved such a remarkable position is undeniably impressive and a testament to its critical and commercial success. It’s projected to surpass the achievements of its predecessor in various categories.
With these exceptional accolades, it seems increasingly likely that Villeneuve will be granted the opportunity to bring Dune: Messiah to the big screen, completing the trilogy he envisions. While some may question the source material for the third installment, given its controversial nature, the “holy war” depicted at the end of Dune Part Two has undoubtedly left audiences eager to witness the conclusion. Comparisons have even been drawn between the nearly-finished Dune trilogy and the original Star Wars trilogy, both being hailed as forces of nature. While it may be premature to make such comparisons (as the first film did not elicit the same level of devotion), it’s impossible to dismiss Dune: Part Two as anything less than one of the greatest science fiction films ever made, regardless of how one chooses to rank them.
As for IMDb’s list, only time will tell how Dune: Part Two fares in the long run. However, even as a starting point, its inclusion among such esteemed company is a remarkable achievement that is well-deserved.
