For 3 days, Yaoundé will be the capital of artificial intelligence (AI). The African Broadcasting Union (AUB), the largest professional radio and television organization in Africa, will organize a summit on artificial intelligence and the media in the capital of Cameroon. According to the information contained in the concept note of this event that News du Camer was able to consult, the latter’s main objectives are to assess the challenges and impacts of artificial intelligence on African media, as well as their preparation for the use of AI and to establish the basis for advocacy for coherent regional policies.
For the UAR, artificial intelligence is a major innovation. Used well, it can be a great tool to facilitate video content analysis, video editing, story writing, post-production and more. However, in malicious hands it can become a “major threat to democracy, to developing cultures and societies, because it can prevent citizens from making informed decisions“, we can read in the aforementioned note. This is certainly the reason why the debates which will take place at this event will essentially focus on “questions of ethics, automation of editorial processes, and the impact of AI on the diversity and integrity of information».
This summit will feature high-level experts from Africa and other continents for prospective and contextually anchored discussions on the potential, challenges and impacts of artificial intelligence on African media, in the aims to share experiences, develop strategies, produce concrete recommendations and synergies to ensure that African media keeps pace, we learn.
