“After the official announcement, I also publish my letter of resignation. I thank Alexis Tsipras and the Central Committee of the party for the great honor they did me. And I thank him Stefanos Kasselakis for the collaboration to date. I wish from the bottom of my heart good success to all of them”, says the former deputy secretary of SYRIZA, Giorgos Vassiliadis, confirming the report which said that he had resigned at the last Political Secretariat of the party.

George Vasiliadis was also in charge of the Organizational Office. Giannis Voulgarakis takes over as the new coordinator for the Organizing Office.
«O SYRIZA-PS thanks George Vassiliadis for his offer from the position of Deputy Secretary at a critical period for the Party. With his abilities, he contributed to the reconstruction and evolution of the Party,” said Koumoundourou’s modest statement on Friday afternoon.
George Vasiliadis’ letter in detail:
“Comrade President, dear Stefan
From the day of your election we built a relationship of honesty and trust, which I believe exists to this day. I have always expressed my view, opinion or even my disagreements as the party constitution provides and tried to protect the prestige of our organs from leaks that degrade both our operation and the prestige of the organs.
After the last meeting of the PG I considered it right and informed you that immediately after the party congress, I believe that the fullness of time has arrived for me to return to the party the already submitted to Alexis Tsipras and you my resignation from the position of Deputy Secretary of the KE .
My move in no way affects my belief that the necessary social transformation and the progressive change of the political scene can be achieved through the strengthening of SYRIZA-PS, as the driving force of the progressive pole of the political system. To do this we need to look at tomorrow and not yesterday. To extend a hand of understanding on the key issues facing society, in the face of the impasses created by neoliberalism. And let us show seriousness so that society does not fall under the weight of far-right populism and the intolerance that has cast its gray veil over Europe.
With seriousness to prove that we are interlocutors of society and the political entity that can guarantee another path. To the dilemmas posed by the dominant ideology and to the roles that want to restrict us, we must respond with policies. A welfare state for all. High level free public education, access to cultural goods, working rights with a living wage for all. Green policies without social exclusion and energy poverty. For a future we deserve.
Remaining on the ramparts of the party as a member of the KE, we move forward all together for the first big battle of the European elections. And against everyone and everything, we stand up and claim a strong party for a better tomorrow, with hope and perspective.
