JawaPos.com – The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) continues to encourage internet and telecommunication service providers to increase the speed of national internet access. Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi stated that this effort had been appreciated by the international community.
“I just watched Telkomsel win the Best Mobile Coverage and Fastest Mobile Network titles at the same time. “Apart from that, we won the Best Mobile Network title five times in a row at the 2024 Ookla Speedtest Awards,” he said after visiting the Ookla booth at the 2024 Mobile World Congress (MWC), at Fira Gran Via, Barcelona, Spain recently.
Budi hopes that this appreciation from the international community will be a spur for the national telecommunications ecosystem to increase the speed of internet access in Indonesia.
“I congratulate Telkomsel, the quality of its service must be improved and hopefully next year it can be even faster,” he said.
Previously, Budi had stated that internet speed in Indonesia was still relatively low. In the ASEAN region, Indonesia is ranked 9th out of 11 countries.
Based on data as of December 2023, Indonesia’s mobile internet speed only reached 24.96 Mbps. Meanwhile, the fixed broadband network is 27.87 Mbps. Therefore, the Ministry of Communication and Information will strive to maintain the health of the industry, quality and expansion of internet services for the public.
Director General of Post and Information Technology (PPI) of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, assessed that the award was an appreciation for the Quality of Service of cellular telecommunications service providers in Indonesia.
“This is a spur to the enthusiasm of Telkomsel friends to continue providing the best service and the best quality,” explained Wayan.
Ookla itself is a global company that measures the speed and performance of internet networks from various internet service providers around the world. The Ookla Speedtest Award measurement and analysis results are monitoring for the period July to December 2023.
Based on analysis by Ookla from Speedtest Intelligence data for Q3–Q4 2023 in Indonesia, Telkomsel won the Best Mobile Coverage award with a score of 889 for Coverage Score which includes Ookla’s measurements and analysis of the availability and quality of cellular services.
Meanwhile, for the Fastest Mobile Network award, Telkomsel achieved a score of 40.89 for Speed Score which is measured and analyzed based on customer download and upload speed experiences. Telkomsel also received the title of Best Mobile Network.
