“The Bachelor” Star Joey Graziadei Addresses Concerns About His Yellow Eyes

“The Bachelor” Star Joey Graziadei Opens Up About His Yellow Eyes

Joey Graziadei, the charismatic star of the hit reality dating show “The Bachelor,” recently addressed concerns from fans regarding the appearance of his eyes. In an Instagram video shared on Thursday, the 28-year-old television personality revealed that his “yellow eyes” are caused by a condition called Gilbert syndrome.

Graziadei began the video by acknowledging the comments he had been receiving about his eyes. He explained, “To give some context on that, I have to go all the way back to when I was in high school. I was sick for about a week and a half, and my mom thought it would be a good idea to go to the doctor.”

During his visit to the doctor, bloodwork was done, and it revealed that Graziadei’s bilirubin count was unusually high. Bilirubin is the yellow pigment found in bile, and high levels of it can indicate liver or biliary disease. Concerned about his liver health, Graziadei underwent further tests, including a liver ultrasound, which ultimately ruled out any serious issues like hepatitis.

It was during this process that Graziadei received a diagnosis of Gilbert syndrome. According to the Mayo Clinic, Gilbert syndrome is a common and harmless liver condition where the liver doesn’t properly process bilirubin. The condition is usually genetic and requires no treatment. One of the visible signs of Gilbert syndrome is a slight yellowish tinge in the skin and whites of the eyes due to elevated levels of bilirubin in the blood.

Graziadei reassured his fans that despite his yellow eyes, he is healthy. He emphasized that he plans to prioritize his health going forward and ensure that he takes care of himself. He mentioned that drinking more fluids helps alleviate the condition, but stress and lack of sleep, which are common on a TV show like “The Bachelor,” can make it worse.

The reality star expressed gratitude for the concern shown by his fans and thanked them for looking out for him. He concluded the video by reiterating that, to his knowledge, he is healthy and will continue to monitor his condition.

Joey Graziadei first entered the “Bachelor” franchise as a contestant on the 20th season of “The Bachelorette” with Charity Lawson. Although he made it to the final two, Lawson ultimately chose another competitor as the winner. However, Graziadei’s journey didn’t end there. During the 20th season finale in August 2023, he was named the next star of “The Bachelor,” capturing the hearts of viewers across the nation.

Fans can catch Joey Graziadei’s quest for love on the 28th season of “The Bachelor,” airing Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. As he continues his search for a soulmate, Graziadei’s yellow eyes serve as a reminder of his unique journey and the challenges he has overcome.
