Mampang Police Chief Commissioner David Yunior Kanitero immediately went looking for two children who were swept away while playing in the Mampang River, South Jakarta. David said the two children were swept away by the current while swimming in heavy rain on the Mampang River.
“The situation at that time was heavy rain and then the water level was quite high, including the Mampang River,” said Police Commissioner David Yunior Kanitero to reporters, Saturday (2/3/2024).
David said that his party received a report of two children being swept away by the current in the Mampang River at around 14.00 WIB, this afternoon. He and members of the Mampang Police went straight to the location to check and search.
“On Saturday, March 2, at around 14.00 WIB, the Mampang Police received reports from residents that a child had disappeared because he was swept away by the current of the Mampang River. We from the Mampang Police immediately went to the crime scene, the crime scene was on Jalan Kemang Utara, precisely at the Sumbangsih Bridge, Bangka Village,” he said.
He said that the total number of children playing in Kali Mampang was 7, namely Gaza (14), Ramdan (16), Kevin (12), Lutfi (12), Wais (14), Fais (15) and April (14). However, Gaza did not swim into the river but instead looked after the belongings of 6 other children who were swimming.
“Then, based on information from residents and 4 children who survived, so at around 13.30 WIB, 7 children wanted to swim to the Mampang River, then 6 people jumped in, 1 child with the initials G, remained at the top to guard equipment for children splashing around,” said David.
He said Ramdan (16) was found short of breath. He said Ramdan was immediately taken to the Mampang Prapatan Community Health Center to receive further treatment.
“After we arrived at the crime scene, we found there were 5 children, one of whom was short of breath, then we immediately rushed the one who was short of breath, on behalf of R, to the Mampang Prapatan Village Health Center,” he said.
David said Fais and April were swept away by the current and swept away. He said Ramdan had tried to save Fais and April but failed because of the strong river current.
“Two children with the initials F and A turned out to be unable to swim because they were carried away by the current. Then the child with the initials R tried to save them but they let go so the 2 children with the initials F and A were swept away and then the one with the initials R managed to save themselves,” he said. .
Furthermore, David said that his party together with the SAR Team from BPBD and firefighters (Damkar) were still carrying out searches until now. He said two boats would also be deployed to comb the Mampang River.
“Currently we have coordinated with the Fire and Rescue team and the SAR team from BPBD, and our plan is to carry out evacuation and rescue efforts by sending 2 boats. One boat from the Damkar and 1 boat from the BPBD by combing later along the Mampang River. We will try our best to reach “This evening we will comb along the Mampang River. We pray that we can find these two children with the initials F and A,” he said.
