Stanimir Ragevski in court

The district court in Burgas found 59-year-old businessman Stanimir Ragevski guilty and imposed the heaviest punishment under Bulgarian law – life imprisonment without parole for the murders of construction worker Yumer Mehmed and realtor Teodora Bahlova in the seaside town, the prosecutor’s office announced.

On August 4, 2021, Yumer Mehmed, 28, was declared wanted. Parts of his body were found on August 11 in a swamp near Lake “Vaya” in Burgas. The remains were found after chef Deyan Dichev led the investigators to the site. Canisters were found there, and parts of Mehmed’s corpse were found inside black sacks. A few days later, police officers also found the firearm with which the young man was killed. The pistol was found in the aspiration of an establishment in the House of the People’s Army in Burgas, whose tenant is Dichev.

Thanks to Deyan Dichev’s testimony, the body of real estate broker Teodora Bakhlova was found. The 47-year-old woman was missing since October 29, 2020, when she left her home at 38 Oborishte Street in Burgas. On August 25, 2021, remains of Bakhlova’s body were found buried in Plot 12 in the Burgas cemetery, as well as in the city sewer. According to the investigators, the woman’s body remained in a canister of strong acid in a private residence for more than three months, then the canister was moved to a commercial establishment. Actions were then taken to cover up the crime.

The 59-year-old businessman Stanimir Ragevski was arrested, charged and handed over to justice for the two murders.

In the indictment of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Burgas, it was recorded that he took the lives of Yumer and Teodora with a “Makarov” pistol with the factory number erased. The realtor was shot on October 29, 2020, and the construction worker on the day of his disappearance, August 4, 2021.

The district magistrates decided that Ragevski should pay compensation of BGN 200,000 each to Teodora Bakhlova’s daughter, Hristiana, and her mother, grandmother Stoyanka.

The blood fine for Yumer’s girlfriend Gabriela and his mother Gülfie is BGN 20,000 each, the magistrates judged that their civil claims were too high and rejected them in their entirety.

The businessman will have to pay nearly BGN 20,000 more for the costs of the case – expertise, costs to the Ministry of the Interior and the court.

The verdict of the District Court-Burgas is subject to appeal before the Court of Appeal in the city.
