Farewell to Former Portuguese Football Defender Afonso Figueiredo After 21-Year Career

Former defender played for several historic emblems of Portuguese football

Afonso Figueiredo announced this Friday the end of his football career. The player has been without a club since last season, when he represented Penafiel 13 times.

«21 years later the time has come to stop doing what has always been my dream since I was a child. It was a pleasure! Thank you football” – this is how the former left-back announced his farewell to the pitch on social media.

Afonso Figueiredo was trained at Sporting, having also played through the youth teams of Belenenses and SC Braga, where he made his senior debut, in Braga’s B team, in the 2012/13 season.

He would then spend three seasons at Boavista, before venturing to French club Rennes and Bulgarian club Levski Sofia.

Boavista was the club that Afonso Figueiredo represented most times (ASF)

He returned to Portugal in 2018 and represented five clubs in the last five seasons of his career: Rio Ave, CD Aves, Moreirense, Estrela da Amadora and, finally, Penafiel.
