Iliyan Todorov Extradited to Bulgaria After 12 Years: Exclusive Footage Revealed

The double murderer from the disco “Solo” Iliyan Todorov landed at Sofia Airport on a flight via Munich. He was extradited from Uzbekistan.

The man was brought to us by a team of the Main Directorate “Security” at the Ministry of Justice. Todorov was the last to be taken off the plane. After the procedures at the airport, he will be taken directly to the prison.

Iliyan Todorov has an effective sentence of “life imprisonment” in the case of the murder of Kiril Vazharov and Vasil Alexandrov in front of the establishment on April 18, 2009.

The brutal double murder was committed in the early hours of April 18, 2009 in the center of Sofia. Two companies are detected there, one of which has just left the “Solo” disco, which is located meters from the Courthouse. After exchanging words, one of the youths takes out a knife and stabs three of his opponents. He then gets into a taxi and disappears. 21-year-old Kiril Vazharov, goalkeeper of the national ice hockey team, died on the spot, and 24-year-old Vasil Alexandrov – in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Their friend Kiril Dimitrov was seriously injured.

Iliyan Todorov was detained in Uzbekistan at the beginning of March 2023, while trying to leave the country through Tashkent airport on a flight to Istanbul. Before that, he was missing for 12 years.

During a border check, airport authorities discovered that Todorov was using a fake Russian passport and detained him. Later, they find out that Todorov is wanted with an Interpol red notice for a double murder conviction handed down by the Supreme Court of the Republic of Bulgaria.

Then the Interpol bureau in Tashkent immediately notified its colleagues in Sofia of Todorov’s detention, and on March 9, 2023, the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor’s Office sent a request for Todorov’s extradition to Bulgaria to serve a “life imprisonment” sentence.

Criminal proceedings were initiated against Todorov for a document crime (using a fake passport) in Uzbekistan and he was brought before the Mirabad District Criminal Court in Tashkent, which in July 2023 sentenced him to 5 years and 1 month in prison.

During the court session there, the defendant Iliyan Todorov admits himself partially guilty and explains that in the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria he is being prosecuted on a fabricated case of murder on the basis of his father’s political career.

The Bulgarian prosecutor’s office sends an official request for the extradition of the convicted. At the end of last year, a delegation from the Uzbek prosecutor’s office came to Bulgaria. One of the main topics of conversation is precisely extradition. The guests undertake to cooperate and return Todorov to us before he serves his sentence there.

Before the extradition of those convicted of the double murder, the relatives of the victims did not wish to speak. Some of them commented that despite the organization and assurances from the institutions, they do not believe that Todorov will be returned to our country. The father of the murdered Kirill agreed to speak with us only after we assured him that his child’s killer was on board the plane.

“After such a thing and so many years of hiding, justice is more for those who threw so much labor – all these years, their labor did not go in vain. Justice is for the people who did everything possible for him to be convicted, arrested and brought here,” commented Mihail Vazharov.

“At the end of the day, life goes on and it will be interesting to see if there will ever be punishment for the people who allowed this 11 years to be hidden,” he added.

There are many questions that remain unanswered. How and when did Iliyan Todorov leave Bulgaria? Did he ever come home to us? Has he only lived in Uzbekistan all these years?
