There is now also an investigation into drug charges against former radio presenter Sven Pichal. In the aftermath of the investigation into the possession of images of child abuse, a small amount of cocaine was found in his locker in the VRT buildings.
This was reported by VRT NWS and has been confirmed by the public prosecutor’s office. The find dates back to last summer, when a house search took place at the VRT. Pichal is also said to have had so-called designer drugs delivered from the Netherlands to the VRT. He ordered it online.
In a response to VRT NWS, Walter Damen, Pichal’s lawyer, confirms the discovery of the drugs. “We never made it a secret in the file that there was also a drug and alcohol problem. A minimal amount of cocaine was found, but of course it should not be there.” Drug use is part of a psychiatric examination. Damen already sees a combination of different things in the file: “A combination of stress, drugs, and then very fiercely pushing the boundaries.”
VRT spokesperson Bob Vermeir says he does not know exactly what was found when the locker and Pichal’s desk were searched. “There were his personal belongings in there and they were taken by the investigators. We will of course continue to cooperate with the investigation.”
Free under conditions
Pichal was released conditionally in early January. For example, there is a catering and internet ban, he must remain at a permanent place of residence and he is not allowed to use alcohol or drugs. Before that, he spent three months in jail and then had two months of electronic monitoring.
