Actor Thijs Römer will not appeal against the sentence the court imposed on him for online abuse of underage girls. His lawyer Bénédicte Ficq reports this on X.
The 45-year-old Römer was convicted by the court in August for online sexual offenses with three underage girls. His sentence is three months in prison, two of which are conditional. In addition, the actor will receive a maximum community service of 240 hours and must undergo treatment at a mental health institution.
Römer initially wanted to appeal, but he is now backtracking on that decision. As a result, the actor has to go to prison for a month.
He said in a statement that he felt responsible for the “major impact” on the victims. “I can now only ‘prove’ the sincerity and value of this realization by accepting the court sentence and therefore not continuing with the appeal I have filed,” Römer explains.
Römer was convicted of seducing underage girls into sending nude photos of themselves. The girls are also said to have filmed themselves performing sexual acts. Römer himself sent photos of his genitals to the girls. They were fourteen, fifteen and sixteen years old at the time.
The girls performed the sexual acts on Römer’s instructions and did not dare to say no. The court convicted Römer based on the victims’ statements.
