As part of a trip to Washington, United States, the chancellor, Carlos Martínez, met this Thursday with the secretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro.
“Productive and pleasant meeting with the Foreign Minister of Guatemala, Carlos Ramiro Martínez; and the advisor and special envoy, Francisco Villagrán. Opportunity was important to reaffirm the dialogue and channels of cooperation between Guatemala and the General Secretariat of the OAS on issues of democracy, human rights, comprehensive development and multidimensional security,” the diplomat explained.
“We value the message of support and recognition from President Bernardo Arévalo and his government,” Almagro added.

Meeting with officials of the United States Government
In addition, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minex) met with the Undersecretary of Economic Growth, Energy and Environment of the United States Department of State, José W. Fernández.
“It is an honor to meet with Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martínez and discuss ways the United States can support Guatemala and the government of Bernardo Arévalo to ensure democracy works. The best way to promote economic development is through democracy and effective governance,” Fernández said on social media.
