Russian Il-76 Plane Crash Sparks Controversy: Latest Updates on Bodies Transfer and Investigation

“For this, everything necessary from a procedural point of view is there… The bodies can be transferred according to existing procedures,” Russian woman Moskalkova told propagandists.

The Russian Ombudsman added that she is allegedly in contact with representatives of Ukraine regarding the downing of the Il-76. According to Moskalkova, the Ukrainian side was interested in the possibility of transferring the bodies, and that it is discussing this issue with the Ukrainian Ombudsman Lubinets.

“Regarding the bodies, I immediately said that we have confirmation and all the DNA, which, according to the examination, allows us to make an identification,” she said.

Dmitry Lubinets, in turn, said that Russia still has not handed over official lists, has not confirmed the death of prisoners and has not allowed international organizations to the site of the Il-76 crash.

“I note that Ukraine’s position is unchanged: we demand a transparent investigation, access to the crash site, and from the first day we demanded official lists and repatriation of bodies and relevant examinations (if confirmed),” he noted.

The crash of the Russian Il-76 plane

Let us remind you that on January 24, a Russian Il-76 plane crashed in the Belgorod region. At the same time, Russia claims that there were allegedly 65 captured Ukrainian military personnel, six crew members and three accompanying persons on the plane. The Russians accuse Ukraine of allegedly shooting down the plane.

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense confirmed that the exchange was indeed supposed to take place on January 24. But intelligence does not confirm the statement that there were Ukrainian prisoners of war on the plane.

NSDC Secretary Alexey Danilov recently stated that there were no Ukrainian prisoners on board the Il-76. In his opinion, if prisoners of war really died, Russia would take advantage of this for propaganda purposes.
