Five dismissals in two games is really a lot! In light of this, Juraj Slafkovský receives a very strong recommendation from an overseas expert and an expert on events in the Montreal Canadiens.

Juraj Slafkovský flashed in the match against Florida with a great goal right after the rebound just 0.7 seconds before the end of the second period. Before this duel, however, his indiscipline was dealt with intensively overseas, as he collected up to five two-minute penalties in the four previous matches!
Overseas expert Jonathan Bernier z Journal of Montreal recommends Slafkovský to “hum” less at the referees and tame his emotions. Because this can be the reason for his frequent exclusions. “Advancement and development in the NHL is not only about improving your skating, gaining confidence, making quicker decisions and improving your defensive game, but also about learning to shut up,” sends a message to the Slovak attacker.
Slafkovský himself realizes that he must change his reactions to referees. “I probably talk to the referees too much. That’s definitely part of the problem. When I get a penalty, I have to be nicer. I shouldn’t shout so much.” the 2022 draft pick was pouring ashes on his head.
Slafkovski’s teammate Brendan Gallagher had a similar problem in the past. For his outbursts, he was the target of referees who hunted him down and was often sent off. However, he has calmed down with age, and as a veteran, the referees will forgive him more than a young player.
“Referees will be more patient with a veteran who is emotional. It will be a little less with young players. It’s part of learning.” responded Habs coach Martin St.Louis. “But Juraj reacts like any 19-year-old player. He will continue to stabilize in this area. It’s a fine line, it’s a game of emotions.” the Canadiens coach takes it as part of the process.
But St.Louis made it clear that he would not tolerate similar offenses by Slafkovski. In the match against Arizona, after the Slovak was sent off for the second time for dangerous play with a high stick in the offensive zone, he did not hesitate and put him on the bench in one substitution. “It’s terrible. I’ve had five penalties in the last two home games. It’s difficult. I don’t want to hurt my team. I’m sweating because I’ve had too many penalties lately.” responds Slafkovský.
Of the five penalties, two were for high stick, one for hooking and two for holding. That means three expulsions for fouls with a hockey stick. “Maybe I should hold the hockey stick more on the ice,” Slovakian representative is intended.
