Possible Merger Between Peacock and Paramount+ Could Challenge Netflix’s Dominance in Streaming Market

Paramount+ and Peacock are rumored to be in talks about a possible merger. If this happens, their two libraries will be merged. According to a new report, if Peacock and Paramount+ merged, their library would give Netflix and run for its own money

The streaming and entertainment industry is in a bit of a weird place right now. Years ago, each media company presented its own content. Now companies are merging left and right and offering bundled catalogs of content for streaming. For example, HBO Max and Discovery+ combined their content, while Disney+ and Hulu are doing the same. Amazon also acquired MGM, so its content is available through Prime Video. This could lead to a future where the entire entertainment industry is highly streamlined, with only a few services actually streaming content.

A merger between Peacock and Paramount+ could give Netflix money

Paramount+ has moved up the ranks of video streaming services. It offers content from a collection of Paramount properties such as Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, BET and more. Lately, we’ve been following rumors that it plans to merge with Peacock, another prominent streaming service. Both services have battled to be the best in the market, but that honor belongs to Netflix. However, that doesn’t mean these two streaming services don’t have great content.

According to Reelgood, a hub for signing up and watching content from multiple streaming services, if Peacock and Paramount+ combined, the content library could surpass Netflix in one key area. This area would be in movies. There are currently 4,082 movies on Netflix; Paramount+ and Peacock will produce a total of 5,296 films. It’s important to know that this includes Paramount+ with Showtime.

However, while this is the case, the bundled streaming services still fall short of the shows. However, the difference in TV shows is less significant than the gap in movies. Netflix has 2,275 TV shows compared to 2,075 between Peacock and Paramount+. So if you’re a big movie watcher, the Peacock and Paramount+ collection might be for you. However, if you’re more into TV shows, Netflix will continue to be your cup of tea. However, we’ll still have to wait to see if the two streaming services will actually merge.
