Zlatan Ibrahimovic Talks About New Role as Agent for Milan at “The Business of Football Summit”

On Thursday evening, Zlatan Ibrahimovic took part in the Financial Times’ annual event “The business of football summit” in London together with the founder of the venture capital company Redbird Capital – where he talked about his new job.

– I couldn’t say no. When I quit I said I wanted to start from scratch with something new. This opportunity came and I felt I had more to give. When you work with the best, you become the best, says Zlatan.

Judging by the conversation, his role within Milan seems to be large. Redbird’s founder Gerry Cardinale describes Zlatan as his agent in Milan and that they have daily contact about how the club should be developed and run.

– We hired him because he can be my voice in Milan on a daily basis. We talk several times a day and he has the right to be my voice to the players and managers. Zlatan has credibility – if I had taken someone from New York, he would not have had the same influence as Zlatan has at all, says Cardinale.

Zlatan was in a jovial mood during the interview.

– It is very simple. They do as I say, otherwise they are not there anymore, he says jokingly about his role in the daily work with players and managers.

His role in Milan does not affect the involvement in Hammarby.

– My plan is that I am part of it, just like before. We are working to improve and take steps with Hammarby. This changes nothing, he says.

There are plans on building a new home arena for Milan. Ibrahimovic was therefore asked if he will miss the San Siro.

– San Siro will miss me more than I will miss San Siro. I have great memories from there, it’s a historic arena. But everything has a new beginning, we have the opportunity to do something great for the supporters and the players.

When asked what he will be doing in ten years, Zlatan replied:

– Predicting the future is difficult. But getting this opportunity to work with Gerry opens doors to different areas. Where it takes me I don’t know. When I get into stuff, I don’t like to do normal things. I like to make a difference. I don’t know where I will be in five to ten years in my professional and private life. But I’m not afraid of challenges.
