President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from US President Joe Biden.
The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, Counselor Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, stated that the call dealt with the joint efforts undertaken by Egypt, Qatar and the United States to calm the situation in the Gaza Strip, reach a ceasefire, exchange detainees, and implement humanitarian aid.
In this regard, the President stressed the need to reach an immediate and sustainable ceasefire that allows adequate and appropriate access to humanitarian aid, in order to achieve a real improvement in the situation in the Gaza Strip. He warned of the danger of continued military escalation and targeting of civilians, and affirmed Egypt’s complete condemnation of targeting defenseless civilians in violation of international law and resolutions. For his part, the American President appreciated the joint efforts to push for the truce, which is a priority at the present time to restore stability in the region, expressing in particular appreciation for the intensified Egyptian efforts, whether on the political track aimed at truce or through its pivotal leadership role in the process of introducing relief aid to the people of Gaza via Rafah port.
The official spokesman added that the call also dealt with the overall regional situation, as the two presidents stressed the need to avoid the expansion of conflict in the region, and agreed to continue consultation and coordination to ensure the restoration of peace and security in the region. The strength of the strategic partnership between the two countries was also confirmed during the meeting and ways to strengthen the distinguished bilateral relations that bind them were discussed. .
