US Investigating Deadly Gaza Shooting Incident: Dozens to a Hundred Palestinians Killed During Aid Distribution

Feb 29, 2024 at 7:13 PM Update: 42 minutes ago

The US is investigating “conflicting statements” about a shooting incident in northern Gaza. Dozens to a hundred Palestinians have been killed during the distribution of goods. The UN Security Council will meet on Thursday to discuss the incident.

Palestinian authorities say more than 100 people were killed in northern Gaza on Thursday when a crowd waiting for aid came under fire.

According to Israel, dozens of people may have died after being hit by trucks carrying aid. An Israeli source confirmed to the news agency Reuters that shots were also fired because soldiers believed that people were getting too close to Israeli tanks. This would have created a dangerous situation.

“We are now checking the events. There are two different stories about what happened. I don’t have an answer yet,” said US President Joe Biden. The investigation into the incident is likely to make negotiations on a ceasefire more difficult, according to Biden.

The UN Security Council will meet behind closed doors in New York on Thursday to discuss the deadly incident. The hearing starts at 10:15 PM (Dutch time) and, according to a diplomatic source, has been requested by Algeria.
