Veeam Software and Object First Founders Renounce Russian Citizenship Amid Ukraine War: Forbes Reports

The founders of American IT companies Veeam Software and Object First, Andrei Baronov and Ratmir Timashev, renounced Russian citizenship, reports Forbes. From 2017 to 2021, businessmen were included in the rating of “200 richest businessmen in Russia.”

Andrey Baronov explained the reasons for his decision in his LinkedIn profile as follows:

“I am a private person and never make public comments, especially about politics. I make a rare exception because I am deeply shocked by the Russian war in Ukraine. “I have officially submitted all the documents necessary to renounce Russian citizenship.”

Baronov also said that he donated millions of dollars to reputable humanitarian organizations that helped “displaced Ukrainians on the territory of Ukraine.”

According to Forbes, his business partner Ratmir Timashev renounced his Russian citizenship in January 2024. Thus, Baronov and Timashev became the eighth and ninth businessmen from among current and former members of the Forbes list who have renounced Russian citizenship since the beginning of 2022.

After the start of the war in Ukraine, six more people renounced Russian citizenship.

  • Founder and main owner of the Freedom holding Timur Turlov.
  • Founder of the investment company Troika Dialog Ruben Vardanyan.
  • Founder of the investment company DST Global Yuri Milner.
  • Founder of Revolut Nikolay Storonsky.
  • Businessman Igor Makarov.
  • Businessman Vasily Anisimov.
  • Oleg Tinkov, who was not included in the Forbes 2022 list, also renounced Russian citizenship, having lost most of his billion-dollar fortune after February 24.
