In Sozopol, they said NO to violence against children at school – 2024-02-28 11:07:24

Everyone joined the flash mob

Today in Bulgaria and many other countries the World Pink Shirt Day is celebrated. The jersey and the color symbolize the rejection of bullying and violence in school. The day is celebrated every last Wednesday of the month of February.

The students from SU “St.St. Cyril and Methodius” in Sozopol said “No to school violence” with a flash mob and releasing pink balloons into the sky. The event turned into a celebration for all the children who joined in a big dance together with their teachers.

“The municipality of Sozopol supports every effort in the fight against violence against children, regardless of whether it is in school or outside it,” said the secretary of the Local Commission for Combating Antisocial Behavior of Minors and Minors, Yana Sotirova.

All employees of the municipality of Sozopol confirmed their commitment to the problem by wearing the pink shirt with care for children today.

It all started in 2007 as a protest against a bullying incident at a school in Canada. In 2008, the Premier of British Columbia declared this day – the last Wednesday in February – to be a day against bullying in schools.

Each year, more and more students celebrate it by coming to school wearing pink t-shirts and clothes that say “Bullying Stops Here” and “Pink Shirt Day.”

Many children live in isolation because they are sick, unaccepted, low self-esteem or different! Many students are victims of insults and humiliations and do not know how to deal with it, how to protect themselves, how to get through the experience…

Pink shirt day is just an occasion to remind ourselves that it depends on all of us what our life will be. It is up to us to teach our children that violence does not solve anything. That acts of violence don’t make us cooler. That it’s not manly to beat up someone weaker than you and share that “heroism” on the web to get likes. It depends on us. And from our opportunity to communicate with our children, to give them a good example.

Experts advise to talk openly with your children about this problem. The more you talk to your children about bullying, the more confident they will feel about sharing with you when they witness or are victims of bullying. Show interest not only in their classes and activities, but also in their feelings.
