Airbnb Report Highlights 2023 as Record Year for Diversity in Travel Worldwide

Airbnb, the leading platform for accommodation and unique experiences, has published a revealing report that highlights the year 2023 as a turning point in the diversity of travel worldwide. According to this report, Airbnb guests traveled to more than 100,000 cities and towns in more than 200 countries and regions last year, making it the most dispersed year of travel to date.

In the United States, this pattern of diversity was reflected in a record of more than 65,000 cities and towns visited by Airbnb guests in 2023. Highlighting this phenomenon, New York City residents rank among the top 10 most adventurous travelers in the country, exploring more than 70% of US counties compared to residents of other cities.

A notable trend among New Yorkers is their strong inclination to explore destinations in Latin America, accounting for almost 35% of all international nights stayed on some Airbnb.

Additionally, more than 4,000 cities and towns around the world welcomed their first Airbnb stays in 2023, with nearly 80% of these new destinations located in non-urban areas. This expansion demonstrates the fundamental role of the app in promoting tourism in less traditional areas and in the diversification of destinations.

The report also highlights Airbnb’s role in mitigating tourism congestion, with the 10 most visited destinations on the platform accounting for just 7% of all trips in 2023, compared to 10% in 2019.
