Announcement of results for 13 constituencies in the 3rd primary

The Democratic Party of Korea announced the results of 13 regions in the third primary on the 28th. Incumbent lawmakers were eliminated in three constituencies including Seoul and Gyeonggi. In addition, according to this announcement, the brackets for eight ruling and opposition parties, including Seoul Yangcheon and Gwanak Gap, were additionally confirmed.
This afternoon, the party’s Central Party Election Commission reported the results of primary elections for a total of 13 districts, including 2 Seoul, 5 Gyeonggi, 2 Gwangju, 2 Gangwon, and 2 Chungcheongnam-do.
In Gwanak-gap, Seoul, Park Min-gyu, former vice-chairman of the Democratic Party’s Policy Committee, defeated three-term incumbent Rep. Yoo Ki-hong to advance to the finals. In Dongnam-eul, Gwangju, former Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance Ahn Do-geol defeated incumbent lawmaker Lee Byeong-hoon. In Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, Yoon Jong-gun, vice president of the Democratic Institute for Democracy, who is classified as a ‘real name’ (true name), won a ticket to the finals, defeating incumbent proportional representative Rep. Choi Hye-young.
The remaining incumbent lawmakers won. Rep. Lee Yong-seon of Yangcheon, Seoul, Rep. Min Hyeong-bae of Gwangju, Rep. Kim Ju-young of Gimpo-gap, Rep. So Byeong-hoon of Gwangju-gap, and Rep. Lee Jeong-moon of Cheonan-byeong, Chungcheongnam-do won the primary and advanced to the finals. For Go Yang-byeong, Rep. Hong Jeong-min and former Blue House Civil Affairs Secretary Lee Ki-heon made it to the finals.
In addition, former spokesperson Kim Seong-hoe was chosen as the candidate in Goyang-gap, former Wonju Mayor Won Chang-mook in Wonju-gap, Gangwon-do, Kim Jung-nam, former carbon neutral committee chairman of the Democratic Party’s Gangwon Provincial Party in Gangneung, and former Seocheon County Mayor Na So-yeol in Boryeong-Seocheon, South Chungcheong Province.
According to the results of the day, a total of eight additional opposition brackets were set, including two each in Seoul, Gwangju, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon. For Yang Cheon-eul, Rep. Lee Yong-seon and former Rep. Oh Gyeong-hoon will compete in the main election. Gwanak Gap is named after former vice-chairman Park Min-gyu and former Gwanak-gu mayor Yoo Jong-pil. For Southeast Eul, former Vice Minister Ahn Do-geol and National Power Party emergency committee member Park Eun-sik will face off, and for Gwangsan-eul, Rep. Min Hyeong-bae and former TBN Gwangju Traffic Broadcasting CEO Ahn Tae-wook will face off.
Also, in Anseong, Vice President Yoon Jong-gun and People Power Party lawmaker Kim Hak-yong will face each other, and in Gwangju Gap, lawmaker So Byeong-hoon and former party council chairman Ham Gyeong-woo will face each other. For Wonju Gap, former Mayor Won Chang-mook and Park Jeong-ha, the active People Power Party chief spokesperson, were chosen, and for Gangneung, former Chairman Kim Jung-nam and People Power Party lawmaker Kwon Seong-dong were selected.
