With the Bureau of the Panhellenic Federation of Local Government Workers(POE-OTA) met at the party offices on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, the President of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, Stefanos Kasselakis.
After the conclusion of the meeting, the President of SYRIZA-PS stated:
“I would like to thank the employees of the Local Government, the POE – OTA who came here to “Mimi Dariotis”, as our building is called, for a very productive meeting. The message of SYRIZA is clear: We want a social state with strengthened Local Government.
First of all, tomorrow we have the ADEDY strike, which we support, as well as the anniversary of the crime of Tempe. We are never going to forget this great crime and neglect the responsibility that the political world has towards the administration of Justice, which is necessary for the souls that were lost and all the souls that were injured.
Local Government workers have many demands and absolutely fair ones in our opinion. First of all, they have an obvious request to meet with the responsible minister, Mrs. Kerameos. Mrs. Kerameos simply refuses to meet them. I urge her to do the obvious thing, as she is paid by the Greek taxpayers, to meet the Local Government workers and if not, to come to the Parliament and answer our MPs, who will proceed with the appropriate Topical Question. SEPE must finally do its job. The accidents experienced by employees in the Local Government are many, they are unacceptable and it is up to the government to strengthen SEPE so that they decrease. The Voridis provision must be abolished, the Development Organizations must be abolished which are the focus of corruption, entanglement and waste in our country.
There is a very large understaffing in Local Government, close to 40%. We must proceed with the announcement of permanent jobs and also there must be a single regulation for the Heavy and Unhealthy, so that there are no different rules between the private sector and the State. The same applies of course to the 13th and 14th salary, which must be reinstated immediately. We are here with the employees of the State, for a State that will serve the citizen efficiently. At the moment it does not, there is a lot of waste and we are on the side of the workers so that their demands can be heard.

The President of POE-OTA, Nikos Trakasstated:
“Today we met with the President of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance as employees of the Local Government to talk about the very big problems that exist in the Local Government. The President understood the specific issues we have, the work accidents, the very few staff we have, the mandatory appeals that we asked Mr. Voridis to abolish, the Development Companies that have been attempted by the government to proceed to Self-Government and it is the , what is more “black” there is. We asked for the support of the Parliamentary Group and the President of SYRIZA. He accepted it.
