The president of the Parliamentary Group, Sokratis Famellos, expressed his opposition to the election of a president to SYRIZA in his speeches.
As Mr. Famellos argued, “I do not believe that the proposal that has been submitted for the election of a president provides a way out. We didn’t discuss politics. I am afraid that it will take us many steps back” and he added that “the discussion that started on the first day of the Conference is not unprovoked. The bodies met last week.”
He continued by saying: “There are problems of collectivity and democracy. If we don’t talk, we’ll never solve it. We need camaraderie at the highest level as well. We are united by a common cause. No personal reading and route. At the Political Secretariat we decided to fight the battle together without raising the issue of electing a president. This is also the anxiety of the members”.
Then the president of the KO of SYRIZA asked himself: “Can we afford to leave the battle of the European elections?” Shouldn’t we have a strong group of MEPs? Can we afford the unconstitutional regulation for the privatization of Universities to pass?”
Before he answered: “We don’t have it, we have to fight this battle in the streets and not in the offices. However, we do not have the ability to cover up the problems. We will solve them or we will find a way out of elections which may not solve the problems. Our statute has a clear framework for the responsibilities of the bodies and for making decisions. Our opponent is only right-wing politics because it is an opponent of society.”
