It was the last day of the Asian Truck Championships held in New Delhi, India. Hideya Hashimoto in the omnium men’s elite and Yumi Kajiwara in the women’s elite each placed first in all four events and were crowned Asian champions. Minato Nakaishi also won a silver medal in the men’s elite 1km time trial.

The Asian Truck Championships is filled with a daily medal rush as Japanese athletes head to the second round of the Truck Nations Cup to be held in Hong Kong on March 15th. The sixth and final day featured the Elite Men’s and Women’s Omnium, the Elite Men’s and Women’s Time Trial, the Junior Men’s Elimination, and the Junior Men’s Madison.
Hideya Hashimoto participated in the men’s elite race in the Omnium, which is contested based on the total points of four middle-distance events: scratch, tempo race, elimination, and points race. Hashimoto, who was briefly the overall leader in men’s endurance at the UCI Track Champions League last October, finished first in three events. He steadily added up points in the final event, the point race, and won the gold medal by winning all four events.

In addition to winning his second consecutive title following last year, Hashimoto also won his seventh Asian Omnium title. Regarding winning the second gold medal after the team pursuit on the first day of this tournament, he said, “Team pursuit and omnium are events that we are seriously aiming for medals at the Paris Olympics. This is thanks to the constant support we received in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics, and the success of our efforts since then.We are truly grateful to our sponsors for giving us an environment in which we can aim for the (next) Olympics. I am grateful to everyone who has done so.”
On the other hand, Yumi Kajiwara, the 2020 world champion and silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, will be competing in the women’s elite. Like Hashimoto, Kajiwara took first place in four events, earning 202 points and winning by a large margin over second place. It was her third gold medal after team pursuit and elimination, and her sixth omnium title.
Kajiwara commented, “I think I was able to run with confidence and aggressively.Thanks to all the cheering and support.” He also expressed his enthusiasm for the next match, saying, “I will prepare well and do my best for the next Nations Cup that will be held in Hong Kong.”

Afterwards, Aki Sakai participated in the women’s elite 500m time trial, finishing in 4th place, just short of a medal. Minato Nakaishi, who participated in the men’s elite 1km TT, passed the preliminaries in 2nd place, and also won 2nd place and a silver medal in the final.
After the race, Nakaishi said, “I was able to get a decent time even on a hard day.I will continue to practice hard so that I can beat my qualifying time in the final.”

In the boys’ junior Madison, the pair of Ryosuke Momen and Kazuma Miura will be participating. At 30km (250m x 120 laps), he got off to a calm start while keeping an eye on his rivals. He caught up in the second half and won the gold medal.
Kazuma Miura, who also participated in the men’s junior elimination competition, finished in 2nd place. he has won a silver medal.
