Niamey, Feb 27 (ANP)-The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Nigeriens Abroad, Mr. BAKARY Yaou Sangaré, met this Tuesday, February 27, 2024 in his Office, with the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Niger, Mr. Salvador Pinto de França in the presence of ambassadors and representatives of the member countries of the said Union in Niger.
Discussions between the Nigerien Minister of Foreign Affairs and representatives of the European Union focused on cooperation between Niger and the EU, as well as the latest developments in their relations, according to a source in Nigerien diplomacy.
”Frank discussions took place to strengthen cooperation and mutual commitments” indicated the same source which also specifies that these discussions ”made it possible to exchange information, encourage mutual understanding and facilitate communication. definition of priorities and common principles”.
The exchanges between the two parties took place “under the old format of political dialogue between Niger and the European Union”, we note.
Note that since the coup d’état of July 26, 2024 led by the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Fatherland (CNSP), the EU has interrupted its cooperation with Niger.
Let us recall, moreover, that ECOWAS, by lifting its sanctions against Niger, also called on its institutions, the UEMOA member states and all other regional institutions to resume their cooperation with Niger.
