Carolina Galván and Nilson Díaz were held responsible for the disappearance of Sara Sofía • La Nación

The defendants were declared responsible for the crime of aggravated forced disappearance. The Prosecutor’s Office requested the maximum sentence against him.

The evidence presented at trial by the Attorney General’s Office was decisive in demonstrating the responsibility of Carolina Galván Cuesta and Nilson Bladimir Díaz Valenzuela in the disappearance of Sara Sofía in the southwest of Bogotá, in events that occurred in January 2021.

A prosecutor from the National Gender Group demonstrated that Carolina Galván, mother of the 23-month-old girl, picked up the minor in a building in the Roma neighborhood, in the Kennedy town, where she was cared for by her maternal aunt who had custody of her since September 2020. With the promise to return it, he took it on January 15, and never returned it to its environment of protection and guarantee of rights.

The investigation established that she moved her daughter to the place where she lived with Nilson Díaz, her romantic partner. Subsequently, the couple provided contradictory information to their relatives about what happened to the minor, whose whereabouts are unknown.

For all of the above, a specialized judge from Bogotá issued a conviction against Carolina Galván and Nilson Díaz for the crime of aggravated forced disappearance. The sentence will be known on the date set by the judiciary.
