Anouar B. Sentenced to Eight Years for Hand Grenade Attack in Enschede

The court in Almelo imposed an eight-year prison sentence on Monday on 29-year-old Anouar B. (alias “Bokito”) for detonating a hand grenade at a house in Enschede. In mid-January, the Public Prosecution Service demanded nine years in prison against the man from Almelo.

Satudarah members

Anouar B. was convicted of throwing a hand grenade into a house on the Auskamplanden in Enschede on December 22, 2016. The attack was aimed at Satudarah founder Michel B., but he was not in the house at the time. However, three people affiliated with Satudarah were present.

Shocking

Because the house was well secured, no one was injured by the approximately 2,500 metal balls in the fragments of the grenade. The public prosecutor calls it shocking that the grenade attack took place in the middle of a densely populated residential area.

In addition to throwing the hand grenade, Anouar B. was also convicted of possessing weapons (hand grenade, firearms and associated ammunition), preparing to commit murder and/or serious assault on several people, and committing and complicating embezzlement.

Series of attacks

The action in Enschede heralded the start of a series of attacks in Twente, some of which were aimed at members of the banned motorcycle club Satudarah. Michel B. is currently a suspect in a major drug case. In February 2023, the perpetrators of the series of attacks in Twente and Gronau, Germany, were sentenced to long prison terms, one of them Simo D..

Dna-match

Additional research in 2020 into DNA on the hand grenade resulted in a match with 29-year-old Anouar B. from Almelo. Subsequently, files from other criminal investigations were also examined and additional evidence was found for B.’s involvement.

Belgium

After “Bokito” came into the picture as a suspect, he was identified internationally for a long time. He remained under the radar for a long time, but was arrested and surrendered in Belgium in early 2023 on the basis of the European arrest warrant.

AK47

In addition to the grenade attack, Anouar B. was also convicted of possessing an AK47 machine gun with associated ammunition. He was also convicted of robbing two employers. For example, he allegedly stole cigarettes and rolling tobacco worth 14,500 euros from a gas station in Maastricht. He also took more than 1,000 euros from the cash register. He stole more than 28,000 euros from the cash register at a sunglasses store in Roermond.
