Scientists have found the key to early detection of dementia
Dementia is an irreversible disease characterized by impaired cognitive abilities. People lose memory, the ability to perform everyday activities and communication skills.
Diagnosis of the disease in the early stages is difficult. However, there are signs that may appear long before the onset of dementia. This conclusion was reached by Chinese scientists from Fudan University. They are convinced that it is possible to predict the development of dementia 10 years before its onset, RIA Novosti reports.
During the work, blood samples collected from more than 50 thousand volunteers were analyzed. There were no patients with dementia among the study participants. Over the next 14 years, 1,417 people fell ill. Most often, the pathology appeared at 66 years of age.
It turns out that proteins in the blood can predict dementia. The problem is indicated by GFAP, NEFL, GDF15, LTBP2. However, individually these biomarkers are not so informative.
