MARIENBORG (Dagbladet): – There is nothing to suggest a more peaceful future for Europe, says Mette Fredriksen, and adds.
– This is a war to be won!
Denmark’s prime minister is therefore making a crystal-clear call to European heads of state today. Fredriksen says there is no alternative to Ukraine winning the war against Russia.
– We are at the beginning of a new era, and that the more peaceful times are unfortunately behind us. The Nordic region must be a powerful actor that will fight Russia back in our areas. Europe has no secure future as long as Russia challenges the sovereignty of independent countries, says Fredriksen.
Rejects: Will not send soldiers
In a hurry
In the front row sits Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. He is meeting Fredriksen and the rest of the Nordic social democratic party leaders in Denmark today.
Denmark’s popular prime minister takes a merciless showdown with Russia.
– Russia plays a destabilizing role in Europe and throughout the world. They try to influence our democracies, unfortunately successfully, through fake news and misinformation, says Fredriksen and adds:
– When you put all this together, there is nothing that indicates a more peaceful Russia and thus a more peaceful time for Europe. That is why we are now in a hurry to equip our defence, she says.
Unexpected statement
Don’t budge an inch
French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said yesterday that nothing has been ruled out in Western efforts to prevent Russia from winning its war in Ukraine. That could mean that Nato is directly involved in the war. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg rejected this today.
Hungary’s parliament yesterday voted in favor of Sweden becoming a full NATO member, which Fredriksen expressed great relief about today.
– Thank you to everyone in the Nordics who are fighting with Ukraine. Now let’s do more. Ukraine not only needs ammunition from us, but also for support for their own arms production. And most importantly – Ukraine needs to know that Europe is not giving up an inch in their fight, says Denmark’s Prime Minister.
