Powerball Jackpot Hits $412 Million, New York Ticket Wins $2 Million – Financial Expert Advises On Wise Prize Collection

After there was no winner in the Powerball drawing on Monday, February 26, the total of this popular lottery reached $412 million for tomorrow night’s drawing.

However, it was not all bad news, as a prize of $2,000,000 was sold in New York.

The winning numbers for the drawing on February 26 were 24, 29, 42, 51, 54 and the Powerball was 16.

The second prize of the drawing was sold in Queens.

According to the New York Lottery, the ticket was purchased at the Lucky Huang grocery store located at 8261 Broadway Street, in the Elmhurst area.

In addition to that prize, two more than $150,000 were sold in The Big Apple.

Specialist recommends collecting the prize in installments

William Romero, financial advisor, explained that most people who choose to receive the raffle prize in a single event end up with a bad financial situation in less than five years.

“Statistically, 90 percent choose upfront payment (in a single payment). Unfortunately, 70 percent of those who choose this method go bankrupt within a period of between 3 and 5 years,” he said.

The psychological impact that people receive when obtaining a large amount of money at once, luxurious expenses, as well as pressure from the immediate environment are some of the factors that intervene so that the prize becomes a ‘nightmare’.

Romero commented that by choosing the deferred payment of the prize, it gives people the opportunity to better plan their expenses.

“By choosing your payment annually, it gives you the opportunity, first of all, to lower your taxes annually at the federal level and at the state level, because you will pay less. Plus the payments will last the rest of your life, so what happens? If you spent this year’s check, you will get another one next year and another one the next, etc.
