Safest Ways to Boost Vitamin D Without Risking Cancer – Expert Advice

There is a safe alternative

At the end of winter, many people feel a lack of vitamins and try to make up for their deficiency. The methods are not always harmless. Endocrinologist Natalia Tananakina spoke about one of these in an interview with RIAMO.

She called the wrong method to compensate for the lack of vitamin D by visiting a solarium. Recent scientific studies have discovered a connection between tanning in solariums and the development of cancer.

For example, in women who regularly undergo such procedures, the risk of developing breast cancer after 40 years of age doubles. If the incidence of malignant tumors in another age category or in another organ is lower, it is still not worth the risk.

Tananakina said vitamin D stores are usually sufficient if a person has a balanced diet and is outdoors in daylight. Natural sunlight helps produce this vitamin in the human body.

“Despite the low temperatures, staying outdoors is still recommended. Of course, when we relax at various resorts, where the sun’s activity is higher, vitamin D is produced faster,” the doctor explained.

In sunny weather, even cold, a 15-minute walk is enough. But at the same time, you cannot be under the sun during the active phase.
