Max Eberl has to clarify the coaching question
The most important task that Max Eberl has to clarify immediately after taking office on March 1, 2024 is the coaching question. Who should succeed Thomas Tuchel as coach at FC Bayern in the summer? The top favorite is said to be Xabi Alonso, who has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2026.
The transfer fee and salary for Alonso are likely to be steep if the Spaniard decides to join the record champions. Alternatively, the name of Sebastian Hoeneß is doing the rounds as well as a return of Hansi Flick or Julian Nagelsmann. Zinedine Zidane is also said to be in discussion.
Max Eberl has to initiate sporting change
In addition to a new coach, FC Bayern also needs new players. The “FC Untrainbaren” had recently worn out a few coaches, but were hardly convincing in terms of sport. Max Eberl has to decide whether or not to continue with players like Leroy Sané, Joshua Kimmich or Leon Goretzka.
Sané and Kimmich (contracts until 2025) as well as Goretzka (contract until 2026) could be sold for good money in the summer if FC Bayern parted ways with them. A sale of Serge Gnabry (contract until 2026) is also conceivable. Then Bayern would need a new midfield axis between Manuel Neuer and Harry Kane.
Max Eberl has to bring back the “Mia-san-mia” feeling
The famous “Mia-san-mia” feeling at FC Bayern is dwindling more and more. Max Eberl has to stop this negative trend and inject the Bayern DNA back into the team. Whether Sané will ever live this “Mia-san-mia” feeling seems more than questionable.
It is conceivable that Eberl will bring in new players who correspond to this “Mia-san-mia” feeling. Real leaders on the pitch who can lead the way and take responsibility. The record champions are missing these players at the moment. Many “would-be” stars are more like followers.
Max Eberl has to prove himself
Max Eberl has to prove himself as sports director at FC Bayern. After his time at Borussia Mönchengladbach and a burnout, some fans accused him of acting when he became managing director of sports at RB Leipzig almost twelve months later in 2022.
Eberl was not happy at RB Leipzig. Although he strengthened the team with many good and expensive players, the then chairman of the supervisory board, Oliver Mintzlaff, accused him of a lack of commitment. Both sides separated at the end of September 2023. Bayern and Eberl probably already agreed on that.
