The Dutch manufacturer Babboe is recalling cargo bike models City and Mini. Research shows that the safety of the City, City E, Mini and Mini E models cannot be guaranteed, the company reports. There is also an apology video.
Hundreds of Babboe cargo bike frames have been broken in recent years. Research by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) shows that the company “violated the law” because it had not reported the defects. The sale of Babboe bicycles is temporarily prohibited in our northern neighbors. The brand will first have to demonstrate that the bicycles are safe.
Now Babboe has announced that the City, City E, Mini and Mini E can no longer be used. The company will start a recall campaign in the Netherlands on Tuesday, in coordination with the NVWA. In a video with an apology, director Gerard Feenema says that a recall will also be launched in other countries. Many people in our country also ride around with a Babboe bicycle.
Feenema says that the owners of the recalled bicycles will be offered a replacement bicycle or another suitable alternative. In addition, compensation will be given.
It is also still not recommended to drive all other Babboe models. But for now, these are not being recalled yet.
The sale of Babboe is not yet banned in Belgium, but an investigation is underway.
