HYBRID WITHOUT PLUG – The Renault Clio and Toyota Yaris have a new rival. The presentation at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show marks the debut of the MG 3 (brand part of the Chinese Saic group) powered by the full hybrid engine called Hybrid+ (not externally rechargeable) which declares a combined power of 194 CV, much more than the rivals mentioned above. According to the manufacturer, the MG 3 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds, ha consumption average is 22.7 km/l and CO2 emissions of 100 g/km. The car is equipped with a 102 HP 1.5-liter petrol engine combined with a 136 HP electric unit. In most driving situations, including acceleration, only the electric engine works, with the combustion engine which intervenes only when necessary or when the drums from 1.83 kWh it runs out of charge. The motor is connected to a change three-speed automatic.
HOW DOES IT WORK – The Hybrid+ system from MG 3 automatically select from five modes of operation. In EV only the electric unit moves the car. In mode Serie, the thermal engine acts as energy for the generator, powering the electric one for traction. There is the mode Series and Refillwhich also allows you to recharge the battery and not only power the electric engine, while during the Drive and Charge the 1.5 petrol engine drives the wheels directly, while charging the battery via the generator at the same time. When the car runs in Parallel, both the internal combustion engine and the electric one send power directly to the wheels. The driver can also customize the car’s response by choosing between Eco, Standard and Sport.
THE RIGHT MEASURES – The new MG 3which will also be available in Italy from May 2024 and replaces the previous generation available only on some European markets, is more long (411 cm) and wider (180 cm). The height is 150 cm and the wheelbase is 257 cm, while with 293 liters the house promises the trunk most capacious among the B-segment hybrid cars. It will be available with 6 different exterior colors (Arctic White, Battersea Blue, Dynamic Red, Black Pearl, Monument Silver and Hampstead Grey) and with real types of alloy wheels.
THERE IS NO LACK OF TECHNOLOGY – The passenger compartment of the MG 3 appears simple but modern. The double screen is highlighted, with the first, 7 inches, hosting the digital instrument panel positioned behind the steering wheel. The central one dedicated to the infotainment system has a diagonal of 10.25 inches and features improved graphics and responsiveness. Some have been retained headboard switches on the center console. Integration with smartphones via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is offered as standard, as is a 6-speaker audio system, four USB ports, rear parking sensors and a camera. The top trim level adds leather upholstery, keyless entry, heated front seats and steering wheel, and a 360-degree camera. The list of systems is long driving assistance (ADAS), with technologies such as Lane Keep Assist which maintains the lane, adaptive cruise control and frontal collision warning.
