Despite a difficult financial situation, a British man on bad terms with his sister refuses to receive even “a single cent” of the jackpot of 61 million pounds sterling (nearly $104 million CA) that she wants to share with her family.
Celebrating 30 years of marriage in the Canary Islands, Debbit Nuttall got the surprise of a lifetime when she learned last month that she had won a Euromillions jackpot, reports The Mirror.
If she announced that in addition to buying a house in Portugal, she intended to share part of her fortune with her family, one of her brothers, Glen, assured that he wanted to know nothing about all that and wanted “not a single cent” from him.
The Briton, who is raising his 10-year-old son who has an autism spectrum disorder, lives on benefits and resides in temporary accommodation. It was one of his other children who informed him of his sister’s winnings by sending him a newspaper extract.
“I didn’t know anything about it. I asked him if it was a joke,” Glen explained to the British media.
He and his sister have been in conflict for more than thirty years, and despite several outstretched hands from Glen, no reconciliation would have been possible. Debbie notably ignored him when they met in a supermarket.
However, Glen does not wish his sister any harm.
“I have no animosity towards her. Do not mistake yourself. I’m happy she won this money. I’m not jealous or anything like that. I can come across as someone who is bitter, but that is not the case,” he assured Mirror.
