All seven who were taken by the avalanche must have been in the same tour group, and were attached to a rope when the avalanche occurred. Several were saved by using a Recco chip – a chip that makes you searchable so that you can be located more easily.

One person survived thanks to an airbag.

– The mountain is stronger than us

According to La Montagne, the well-known mountain guide, David Vigouroux (50), is among the four who died.

The tour group must have been walking in the loose snow outside the groomed trail when the avalanche occurred.

The newspaper writes that the area is known to be “dangerous”.

– It’s a funnel. The mountain is unfortunately stronger than us, said the mayor of Mont-Dore, Sébastien Dubourg, during a press conference.
