Goalkeeper Joe Hart, formerly of Manchester City and England and currently at Glasgow Celtic, announced this Thursday that he will retire from active football at the end of this season.
Hart, 36, made more than 250 appearances for Manchester City between 2006 and 2018, as well as making 75 appearances for England. In his sporting career he won two Premier Leagues, one FA Cup, two League Cups, two Scottish Leagues, two Scottish League Cups and one Scottish Cup, as well as four Golden Gloves in the Premier League, tied with Petr Cech as the one who has the most in history.
The goalkeeper began his career at Shrewsbury Town in 2003, before making the jump to City, where he remained until 2006.
During his time at City he had different loan spells at Tranmere Rovers, Blackpool, Birmingham City, Torino and West Ham United. After leaving the ‘Sky Blues’ he played two seasons at Burnley, had a brief spell at Tottenham Hotspur and went to Celtic, where he has been a starter for the last three years.
With England, he was a regular in the squad between 2008 and 2017 and was in the 2012 Euro Cup, the 2014 World Cup, the 2016 Euro Cup and the 2018 World Cup.
«For everything he has done in football, Joe deserves congratulations. He has been a great player for Celtic and for the whole sport at the highest level, both nationally and internationally. But, above that, he is an incredible man who has been brilliant to work with. He has been a great teammate throughout his career and a footballer who has always given his best,” said Brendan Rodgers, current Celtic manager. EFE
