Rio Ave today imposed a 3-3 draw on Sporting, in a match on the 23rd round of the I Football League, a result that puts the ‘lions’ behind in relation to commander Benfica.
The Vila-Condense team, which was coming off a defeat in Famalicão, took the lead after just three minutes, through Úmaro Embaló, but Sporting, which was coming from a series of eight victories in the championship, turned the score around, with goals by Hjulmand and Gyökeres, at nine and 44 minutes, respectively.
Rio Ave still reached half-time tied, after Aziz converted a penalty, at 45+4, with the same player, in a new maximum punishment, putting his team back in front, at 66, before Sebástian Coates, at 73, score the third goal and ‘save’ a point for your team.
With this draw, Sporting ends the day in second place, two points behind commander Benfica, who beat Portimonense (4-0), but with one game less, and seven more than FC Porto, third and who drew 1 -1 in Barcelos with Gil Vicente, while Rio Ave is 14th, with the same 22 points as Estoril Praia (13th), Estrela da Amadora (125th) and Portimonense (16th).
