USA: Easy victory for Trump in Nikki Haley’s hometown of South Carolina – 2024-02-25 14:23:26

Confirming predictions, Donald Trump easily prevailed over Nikki Haley in the Republican primary in South Carolina.

A victory which has a special symbolism, since South Carolina is the birthplace of Haley, who was the governor of this state from 2011 to 2017.

With 50% of the vote counted, Trump secured 59.6% to Haley’s 39.7%.

“It’s a great day,” the former US president said shortly after his South Carolina victory was announced.

Referring to the upcoming contests for the Republican presidential nomination, Trump discounted a victory in Michigan ahead of the so-called “Super Tuesday” next month, when primaries will be held in 15 US states.

Afterwards, Donald Trump promised victory against Democrat Joe Biden, whom he accused of “ruining the country”. “We’ll tell him: Joe, you’re fired! Get out!” he said to the applause of his supporters.

Nikki Haley: “I’m not giving up the fight”

Trump hopes to soon force the former US ambassador to the UN to throw in the towel, but so far 52-year-old Nikki Haley is refusing to drop out of the race for the Republican nomination.

“I’m not giving up the fight,” Haley repeated before supporters in Charleston. “I don’t believe Donald Trump can beat Joe Biden,” he claimed.
