Fire brigade
The Brussels fire brigade was called on Sunday morning to a fire on the sixth floor of an apartment building on Helihavenlaan. The fire is now under control. Four flats are uninhabitable and one resident was taken to hospital.
“Twenty people were evacuated from the building,” said fire brigade spokesman Walter Derieuw. “They are accommodated in a garage of the nearby fire station. One resident was taken to hospital.”
The fire brigade was immediately on site, because the fire was close to the barracks on Helihavenlaan. “A total evacuation of the apartment building was not necessary,” said Derieuw. “The other residents have been asked to stay indoors.”
The damage could have been much greater, but the quick intervention prevented worse. Four apartments are uninhabitable. “Reception is arranged for the affected residents through the services of the city of Brussels. The fire brigade ventilated the building and checked for the presence of CO.”
