Singer Natalia has responded for the first time on Instagram to the strongly criticized and canceled VTM program Back to reality. She apologizes, but also emphasizes “that the program turned out differently than intended”.
“I think it is important that I say something about the commotion myself,” the singer begins. “I have seen with great amazement what has been said and written. First of all: I deeply sympathize with all mothers who feel addressed and hurt. I certainly never wanted it and the program turned out differently than it was intended. That has caused many difficulties. There has always been talk about awareness and never about poverty. That commotion has exposed issues that have been discussed. I think that says it all.”
It was a very difficult program to make, Natalia says. “Because of the difficult theme, but also the intense way in which it was made. Also because our children were part of it. Because we did sleep in that house, if there are people who think that is not true. Things went wrong during the making that caused frustration for everyone, and I can certainly admit that sometimes it just became too much and that I reacted more violently than usual.”
She adds that she has a warm heart for the people on set. “We went for the best and everyone learned from it. I hope we can put everything to rest now and I will focus on my music again.” Natalia will kick off a festive anniversary tour on Thursday. She thanks everyone for the support. Even the “haters,” she says, “because I think you could use a lot of love and support too.”
The first episode of the VTM program Back to reality was broadcast on Monday. Immediately there was a lot of criticism from single mothers and poverty experts, who talked about, among other things, “poverty porn”. The criticism then turned into criticism of the “diva behavior” of the singer herself. The program was therefore dropped. The first episode is no longer even available on streaming channels.
