It is high time to commit the name Emilia Sjöstrand to memory.
The 21-year-old struck with a huge triple jump in a competition in the USA on Saturday.
– It was a fantastic competition, she says in a comment on the association website.
It is Maja Åskag who is tearing down the biggest headlines in Sweden, but somewhat in the shadow of Åskag’s success, the same age Emilia Sjöstrand is a great success at college in the USA.
Sjöstrand competes for San José State University in California and on Saturday she hit a big jump in a competition in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Second all time
The jump measured 14.09 and is a new personal record by far.
It is also the second longest indoor triple jump by a Swede – only Camilla Johansson’s 14.12 jump from 2000 is longer.
– So much fun with 14 plus, but a little sour of course to be so close to the Swedish record. But I absolutely felt that the jump today has improvement potential, so hopefully it will come in two weeks at the NCAA nationals, says Sjöstrand.
“It was time”
She made six jumps in the competition and in addition to the 14.09 jump, she had another jump over 14 meters (14.04).
– It was a fantastic competition! I felt it was finally time to get 14 meters today. Everything felt very good, I felt light and was very excited. So when the first jump was 13.90 I felt I wanted to take the chance.
