Rainbow Six Siege Creative Director, Alexander Karpazis, has revealed that the team has no plans to create a sequel for the popular game. Instead, they are focused on building up the existing game and delivering new content to keep players engaged.
During the Siege Invitational 2024 event in Brazil, Karpazis expressed his concerns about other live service games that have released sequels and failed to meet expectations. He stated, “I’m not going to name names, but you see games that did go through sequels and just completely drop the ball because they have to remake every single thing that they did in that first game.”
Karpazis believes that constantly remaking everything in a sequel can be frustrating, costly, and ultimately not beneficial. Instead, he wants to focus on building upon the foundation of Rainbow Six Siege and continuing to improve and expand the game. He emphasized the importance of knowing what they have and building upon it, which is where he believes true success lies.
One of the reasons behind this decision is the team’s confidence in the game’s engine. Karpazis stated, “I can confidently say that we have probably one of the best engines in the world when it comes to live PvP shooters.” He praised the team’s ability to deliver content faster, more robust, and more stable with each incremental improvement.
The creative director also expressed his belief that Rainbow Six Siege has the potential to last forever with the talented team and tools they have today. This commitment to ongoing development and improvement is evident in Ubisoft’s recent unveiling of Year 9 Season 1, Operation Deadly Omen, which introduces a new operator named Deimos.
In addition to focusing on game development, Ubisoft has also taken steps to address toxicity within the Rainbow Six Siege community. Last year, they implemented reputation penalties for abusive voice chat. This penalty mutes repeat offenders by default, preventing hateful and disruptive content in voice chat. Muted players can still use voice chat but will only be heard by players who choose to unmute them.
Overall, Rainbow Six Siege’s creative director’s decision to prioritize building up the existing game instead of creating a sequel demonstrates a commitment to player satisfaction and long-term success. With a strong engine, a dedicated team, and a focus on delivering new content, Rainbow Six Siege is poised to continue thriving in the future.
