Andreas Almgren’s life is characterized by rock-hard training.

Then sometimes deadly situations arise.

– I saw a pretty girl, we made eye contact… then I spat in a cascade in a bin next to her, he tells SVT’s “Carina Bergfeldt”.

After many years of injury woes, middle-distance runner Andreas Almgren is finally completely injury-free – and in the shape of his life.

The star now has six current Swedish records indoors and outdoors – from 1,500 meters up to the half marathon – and his sights are set on 5,000 and 10,000 meters in the Olympics this summer.

Spit in front of “pretty girl”

The road to the top has been long and characterized by rock-hard training.

In tonight’s episode of SVT’s “Carina Bergfeldt”, Almgren talks about her worst memory connected to training and shares an embarrassing incident after a session on Bosön outside Stockholm.

– When I was doing shorter distances such as 800 meters, then there is an extreme amount of lactic oxygen training. Then you have certain passes where you are more or less completely knocked out when you reach the finish line. It’s a headache, you lie down for 20 minutes and can’t move. I had a pass like that on Bosön and afterwards I got up to go and change and then I remember that there was a girl sitting there who I thought looked quite pretty. We made eye contact, I nodded a little … then I spat in a cascade into a garbage can next to her. Good first impression, says Almgren, drawing laughter from the audience.

“Terrible”

Recently, the 28-year-old has focused a lot on training in warm conditions, which is expected during the Olympics in Paris this summer.

Since it is winter in Sweden, aids are required – and they are available on Bosön in the form of a so-called heating chamber.

After the training sessions in the heating chamber, the thermometer can show a body temperature of over 39 degrees, which feels like a high fever.

– It’s terrible, says Andreas Almgren.
