Andreas Almgren has shown great form during the start of 2024. He has broken the Swedish records for 10 kilometer road and half marathon.
In recent years, Almgren has rearranged and increased the amount of training, but reduced the intensity of the hard sessions. Everything according to the Norwegian model with “double threshold”.
Now Andreas Almgren is aiming for the Olympics in Paris in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters. During this summer’s major championships in Paris, the weather is expected to be hot. To prepare the body for the heat, Almgren trains in a heating chamber on Bosön in Stockholm.
Almgren tells SVT’s “Carina Bergfeldt” that you measure your body temperature after a session and that the thermometer can then show a fever of over 39 degrees.
– You can set humidity, temperature and simulate altitude. Then you try to get your body used to handling the heat. It’s terrible, he says in the program.

Many hard training sessions have taken Almgren to the world elite in running. When he is asked in the program what is his worst memory connected to his sports, he remembers an incident after a training session on Bosön. Then he focused on shorter distances such as 800 meters. The training for those types of distances focuses a lot on teaching the body to withstand lactic acid, and the training sessions are tough.
– When you reach the finish line after certain sessions, you are completely knocked out. It’s a headache, you lie down for 20 minutes and can’t move, he says.
Almgren continues:
– I stood up and started walking towards the changing room where there was a girl sitting who I thought was quite pretty. We made eye contact, I nodded a little and cascaded spit into a trash can after that. It was a good first impression, he says and adds that there was no further contact with the girl from Bosön.
