How else can a person be designated who, on his days off, took care of the children’s playground near the apartment block, without being obliged to do so and without being paid?
When he was injured in an industrial accident and had to have one of his legs amputated, everyone in the apartment block expected that he would now tame himself, start slapping cards like all pensioners.
But it didn’t happen like that.
Early in the morning, Manol went to the kindergarten and did something.
Since something was not hidden here, it soon became clear that he had acquired sacks and was cleaning the garden – he collected the messy plastic bottles, plastic bags… He even collected the butts. And they were countless…
They watched Manol with curiosity and shrugged their shoulders – crazy in their own way.
They even laughed when they saw him limping with one hand with his crutch and with the other dragging a bag full of garbage to the container. No one thought to help him…
Then it was the turn of the grass – he pulled it, although they offered him to spray it with detergent.
But Manol did not agree – he hated chemistry. More proof that he’s a fool, they thought…
When the garden was cleared of wild brush, it turned out that there were two birches in front of the apartment block. Manol shaped their crowns and they shone with their gentle beauty.
Then came the biggest surprise – Manol brought roses from somewhere and, planting them, arranged them so skillfully that everyone gasped at the unbearable beauty.
Somehow imperceptibly they began to bring flowers and hand them to him, to plant them. So Manol transformed the garden and it turned into a colorful oasis.
Everyone seemed to forget that Manol was one-legged and were even surprised when he didn’t show up in the kindergarten for several days. Then they realized that misfortune had befallen him again – now his other leg was also out of order.
Yes, but they still didn’t know – one morning they saw Manol again in the kindergarten.
Very soon they revealed Manol’s secret – he crawls to the elevator and then to the kindergarten.
So everyone got used to the fact that Manol can’t do it without hard work.
Until one morning he was found dead in the garden, clutching the scissors he used to prune.
Now he must be taking care of some heavenly garden.
Because Manol can’t do it without work, it doesn’t matter if he’s alive or dead.
